To address the traditional Johnson method estimation error caused by the unique body structure of Pingliang Red Cattle, this study aims to correct the coefficients of the Johnson method for estimating the breeding and live animal trading of Pingliang Red Cattle. The weight, chest circumference, and body length of 100 Pingliang Red Cattle ( 50 in the treatment group, 50 in the validation group) were measured. The corrected coefficient of the Johnson formula was calculated using the back-calculation method, and t-tests were used to verify the differences between the estimated and actual values. The original coefficient (10080) led to systematic overestimation of the estimated values 29.51kg (P<0.01). After correction, the coefficient 11175 reduced the error in the validation group to 1.77kg (P>0.05). The final formula is: Weight (kg) = Chest Circumference 2 × Body Length / 11175. The corrected coefficient significantly improves the accuracy of weight estimation for Pingliang Red Cattle, but due to sample size limitations , further validation is needed to expand the applicability of the estimation method. |
