As the prices of corn and soybean meal continue to rise, the cost of livestock farming is increasing steadily. Therefore, it has become imperative to seek alternatives for corn and soybean meal. The unique geographical advantages of the agro-pastoral transition area in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau have led to a rich production of specialty agricultural products, providing diverse potential feed sources. This paper explores the unique potential feed resources in the agro-pastoral transitional zone of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Energy-based feeds that can replace corn include the high-yield northwestern corn from the northwestern region, wheat and wheat middlings which are energy-rich, resistant to mold, and nutrient-dense, barley malt with high protein content and balanced amino acid composition, and potatoes rich in carbohydrates.Protein-based feeds that can replace soybean meal include flaxseed cake and rapeseed meal, which are widely cultivated, easily accessible, and high in protein and crude fat. Feed additives include stevia, which is high in sugar and can improve the palatability of feed, and a variety of Chinese herbal medicines known for their significant health benefits. |
