      Beef cattle breeding is one of the pillar industries of China’s animal husbandry,and the northwest region (Shaanxi,Gansu,Ningxia,Qinghai,Xinjiang),which has 31.7% of the land area,is one of the important production areas of animal husbandry.The development of beef cattle farming in the five northwestern provinces shoulders the dual tasks of food supply stability and quality and safety.The article introduces the current development status of the beef cattle breeding industry in the five provinces and regions of Northwest China,as well as an overview of beef cattle breeds.It concludes by summarizing the development experiences in recent years and offers suggestions for the high quality development of the beef cattle industry in the Northwest region.
