Abstract: Utilization of embryos collected from progeny reproduced by imported Canadian Simmental cattle, mating with semen from Northern American Simmental bulls,to improve genetics of local beef cattle, will enhance efficiency of imported genetics and facilitate the genetic improvement of beef breeds in China. The purpose: The impacts of Scorcherosis on embryo production and successful pregnancy are evaluated in present study with donors infected with Scorcherosis farming in field during embryo production. Methods: Forty-one Simmental heifers at 10-16-month age were super-ovulated to produce in vivo embryos, among them 17 donors were diagnosed as Scorcherosis during super-ovulating procedures. 24 healthy donors raised inside barn were as controls. Embryos produced from these two groups of animals were frozen, and 30 (infected) and 26 (control) embryos from each group then were thawed and implanted into recipients respectively. Results based on this experiment indicate total embryos per donor from both groups are not significantly different, while the total transferable embryos and pregnant rates are significantly lower in Scorcherosis infected donors, compared to healthy ones. In conclusion: Cattle infection with Scorcherosis tends to cause the increase of body temperature, which will seriously reduce the number and quality of embryos when temperature exceeds 39.5℃.
