The purpose of this article was to analyze the literature collected from the Web of Science core collection database and the CNKI database from 1992 to 2019 to understand the domestic and global research status of beef cattle. Using bibliometrics method, with “cattle or bovine” as the search term, the title search was performed to analyze changes in the number of articles and other details in countries, institutions, authors, journals, research directions, disciplines, keywords in the past 30 years. Statistical analyses illustrated that the United States had obvious advantages in cattle scientific research field, and most high-quality journals and articles were also originated from the United States. After 2010, China''s cattle scientific research field displayed a rapid development stage, the number of the past decade ranking second in the world. Among all the institutions, Northwest A & F University and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences dominated. The global cattle scientific research field takes agricultural, veterinary, food science, reproductive biology, biotechnology and applied microbiology as the main research directions, and China’s cattle scientific research field was in line with the international standards. However, China lacks high-cited articles and high-quality journals. This phenomenon indicated that China should make breakthroughs in developing high-quality journals and publishing high-impact articles. Therefore, China should make breakthroughs in these two aspects, so as to further promote the development of beef cattle research in China. |
