Cryopreservation of semen and artificial insemination have greatly improved the utilization rate of breeding bulls and reduced the number of breeding bulls, however higher requirements have been put forward for the quality of breeding bulls. Excellent breeding bulls should have abundant energy, strong physique, stable heredity of excellent traits, and be able to produce a large number of high-quality semen. Actual fertility of a herd is a result of the genetic potential and environmental factors including nutrition, health, and management of bulls. The scientificity and standardization of feeding management play an important role in the cultivation of excellent bulls. This paper summarizes the methods for selection of breeding bulls, relevant national laws and regulations of breeding livestock and the current situation of breeding bulls in China, and discusses the key influencing factors of breeding bulls from the aspects of nutrition and feeding management, to explore the specific measures for improving management of breeding bull. |
